Sep 20, 2012

Three string groups entered the competitions this year. They included Tui Road Strings from Papatoetoe East Primary, Tironui Strings at PI from Papatoetoe Intermediate, and Four Friends from Papatoetoe Intermediate.

All the groups received certificates or awards – Tui Rd Strings got certificates for encouragement, with the judges’ comments, “Novel idea to announce jointly. Large string group having fun with good basic playing.”

Tironui Strings at PI received Silver awards and the judges noted: “Confident introduction and organised tuning. Vigorous playing in a large group. Well chose piece.”

Four Friends also received Silver awards and the judges said of them: “Confident presentation. Good sense of drone and life in performance, good tone quality well presented to the audience.”

Violin tutor Lyn Insley commented: “ We can be very pleased as every group we have entered over the years has come away with a certificate of some sort – a record others would envy.” She also thanked the teachers from the two schools who were so supportive, parents who got their children there on time, and especially all the pupils, whose behaviour was outstanding.
