Notes from our Wind tutor at Puhinui School

Sep 20, 2012

The children were very pleased to be able to play at a concert in front of a large audience, family and other schools.

They have put a lot of time and effort into practising for the concert, and I have been reminding them that we were going to play for the Trust who has given them this chance to learn a musical instrument. Our long term goal is to further the children's passion in learning and playing music.

The children were fairly happy with their performance, as they mentioned to me afterwards that they were a bit nervous at the beginning, but played better as the concert went on.

Jenna, a recent student from Puhinui who is now at Intermediate, had the opportunity to play the trombone with the New Zealand Navy Band.

Another former Puhinui student, Roynan, recently went on tour in Australia as a member of St Kentigern's College Jazz Band. He also plays the trombone.

We have also had a few students purchase their own instruments this year, and have a few more who are wanting to purchase instruments in the future. So the opportunity the Tironui Trust has provided the children is having success.
