Apr 16, 2016
As we approach the end of Term 1, I’m very pleased to report that the 2016 year is off to a fantastic start with all classes and ensembles (with the exception of bands at Papatoetoe North) underway and new tutors settling into the programme very well. There is a strong sense of cohesion and fellowship amongst tutors in each programme. A culture of seeking help and offering advice is evident and growing, with all established tutors supporting those that are new to the programme.
We have been invited to be part of the Octave Up programme again in 2016. There will be 12 – 14 TMT students involved who will be selected from the Papatoetoe Intermediate string programme.Lisa Chung will coordinate the TMT group and will also facilitate extra rehearsals with them so that they can perform at school and other events. Rehearsals will take place at both Otara Music Arts Centre (OMAC) and Papatoetoe Intermediate School so that each group has occasion to host the other. It is hoped that this joint ownership approach will facilitate relationship building between students as well as provide leadership opportunities for older students.
