Teacher of Brass instruments

Katherine was inspired to play the trumpet at the age of 11 and it has been an important part of her life ever since. She is a Registered Nurse by profession but  has enjoyed passing on the skills and joys of playing brass to the younger generation, previously for the Manurewa Junior School of Music and now for the Tironui Music Trust.

Katherine has been a longstanding stalwart of the Manukau Concert Band's trumpet section and has enjoyed being part of the band's strive for excellence, which has made it a regular Gold Award winner at the annual Concert Bands Association Festivals.

Seeing a 9 year old child master their first notes on a trumpet or trombone, and helping  them make musical sense from the squiggles on the page,  gives Katherine great satisfaction.
