The highlight for children and teachers this semester was of course the concert on 20th September, where all four Tironui Trust groups played for a large audience that included the Prime Minister Helen Clark, several other politicians, educators, principals, and a hall full of proud whanau and friends. The event began with a powhiri, and the Prime Minister spoke – and also joined in on the drums! All teachers reported a leap in confidence and enthusiasm by the players as a result of this event. The Deputy Mayor of Manukau suggested a liaison with Manukau Youth Orchestra at some point in the future, and Rachel Snelling mentioned that the manager of Auckland Youth Orchestra was interested in discussing future projects with the Trust.
