2011 has been a year of changes for TMT.
In March our wind teacher Heather Revell left us unexpectedly, and for some months it seemed that it would be impossible to fill the gap created. Her enthusiasm and drive as well as her ability to teach a whole class of wind instruments simultaneously was a hard act to follow. But in July we discovered that we had a hidden treasure already working at Puhinui School. This was Lua Mose who has a music degree and is competent in woodwind and brass. Principal Kevin Hornby was willing to make Lua available to teach Tironui students at both Puhinui and Pap. West schools, and shortly after this he was joined by Jillian Christoff. Jill is a horn player with the APO and a band teacher in her own right, and she and Lua work in partnership in the two primary schools.
More recently David Snelling, TMT’s violin teacher at Pap. East Primary and Pap Intermediate, has decided to move to Waihi in the new year so once again we are looking for someone to fill the huge gap he will leave. David has tremendous rapport with the children and he will be greatly missed.
